AREA ATTRACTIONS
Adrienne Arsht Center
Designed by internationally renowned architect Cesar Pelli, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, which includes the Ziff Ballet Opera House and the Knight Concert Hall, is just minutes on foot from the Marquis.
Gusman Center
Just South of Marquis by car, the beautifully restored Moorish architecture of the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, originally known as The Olympia Theater when it first opened in 1926, today is host to pop stars and is a favorite venue for MTV concerts.
South Beach
White sand beaches and white-hot entertainment of South Beach are a 10-minute drive from Marquis. Every December the social whirl of Art Basel Miami – the United States’ most prestigious art show – makes South Beach an international draw. Since 2000 South Beach has also been the home of the Miami City Ballet, one of America’s most admired ballet companies. Arquitectonica, also the architect for Marquis, designed their permanent facility, the Ophelia and Juan Js. Roca Center.
American Airlines Arena
Live popular music concerts by A-List entertainers and premiere sporting events, the American Airlines Arena, only 10 minutes by car from Marquis, is unmatched in South Florida. Home of the NBA’s Miami Heat and twice the host of the MTV Music Awards, “AAA” also features the Waterfront Theater, which hosts corporate and charity events in a smaller setting.
Jungle Island
Within a stones throw, on Watson’s Island, is the new home of what was originally established in 1936 as Parrot Jungle. Now known as Jungle Island, this 18-acre park is home to 1,100 tropical birds, 2,000 varieties of plants and flowers, and a free-flying bird show that is not to be missed.
Design District
The Miami’s Design District, the brainchild of developer and art collector Craig Robins – the man behind the redevelopment of South Beach in the late 1980’s – is within easy driving distance just north of Marquis. Dozens of art galleries, interior design showrooms, cutting edge fashion boutiques, architects, designers, media companies, artists and restaurants are spread over 18 blocks. Every 2nd Saturday is ART + DESIGN Night.
Museum Park
The south and east facing residences of Marquis overlook Museum Park just across the street. This 40-acre green space, designed by Cooper, Robertson & Partners, faces Biscayne Bay and extends south to the American Airlines Arena. Among its lawns, public gardens, fountains, and pools are two world-class museums: the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium and the Miami Art Museum.
